BMW Cuts Profit Margin Target to Just 3-5% by 2028, Will Axe 8,000 German Jobs
Sep 30, 2026The Spec'd take
Why it stands out
- The stretched 2,800 mm wheelbase and a rear bench that reclines up to 28.5 degrees make this a genuinely chauffeur-friendly EV, something few electric SUVs at this price even attempt
- 546 km claimed MIDC range from a 66.4 kWh battery, plus 130 kW DC fast charging that does 10 to 80 percent in about 32 minutes
- The single variant comes properly loaded: M Sport styling, 9 sq ft panoramic glass roof, 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio, Parking Assistant Plus with 360-degree camera and Digital Key Plus
- Assembled in India, and the configurator puts it only about 2.8 lakh above the petrol X1 LWB, a small premium for going electric
Worth knowing
- One variant, one motor, front-wheel drive only: there is no dual-motor or all-wheel-drive option
- 204 PS and 8.6 seconds to 100 km/h is brisk rather than properly quick for a BMW
- Only four paint colours are offered, versus six on the petrol X1 LWB in BMW's configurator
- Standard car warranty is just 2 years (the battery gets 8 years or 1,60,000 km); longer cover up to 10 years costs extra
