Mahindra’s XUV 3XO CNG starts at ₹9.99 lakh ex-showroom for the base MX Edge, but on The Spec’d’s own city price pages it works out to about ₹11.59 lakh on the road in Mumbai, a ₹1.6 lakh gap that’s almost entirely Maharashtra’s 11% road tax and insurance. Bookings and deliveries opened October 20 across four variants, and the cheapest one gives up nearly a quarter of the boot for the privilege.
Test drives began October 15 and bookings opened five days later, timed for Diwali deliveries. The CNG kit bolts onto the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that powers the rest of the XUV 3XO range, with Mahindra claiming identical output on both fuels: 111 PS and 200 Nm. On CNG, the company claims 24.7 km/kg. No independent outlet has run a real-world test of that figure yet, so treat it as a lab number until one does.

What Mahindra Actually Launched
Four variants, all manual-only, built on the existing XUV 3XO petrol lineup rather than a separate CNG-only trim walk. Prices are ex-showroom.
| Variant | Ex-showroom | On-road, Mumbai |
| MX Edge CNG MT | ₹9.99 Lakh | ₹11.59 Lakh |
| REVX Edge (O) CNG MT | ₹10.79 Lakh | ₹12.62 Lakh |
| AX5 CNG MT | ₹11.19 Lakh | ₹13.08 Lakh |
| REVX A CNG MT | ₹12.27 Lakh | ₹14.33 Lakh |
Those on-road figures are The Spec’d’s own estimate for Mumbai, built from the ex-showroom price plus Maharashtra road tax, insurance and FASTag. They’ll run higher or lower depending on your state’s road tax slab; check your own city’s price page before you book.

What You Give Up for the CNG Kit
The twin CNG cylinders eat into the boot. Mahindra’s own variant sheet lists 270 litres for the CNG cars against 364 litres on the petrol, a drop of 94 litres, roughly one large check-in suitcase’s worth of space gone. The base MX Edge CNG also swaps leatherette for fabric seats, drops the rear armrest and loses the driver’s seat height adjustment, features the petrol MX Edge keeps.
Which Variant to Buy
Skip the AX5. At ₹11.19 lakh it costs ₹40,000 more than the REVX Edge (O), but Mahindra’s own feature list shows it actually drops back to a single-pane sunroof and fabric seats, trading the REVX Edge (O)’s panoramic sunroof and leatherette for a 10.25-inch digital driver display and connected-car tech most CNG buyers won’t prioritise over comfort.
The REVX Edge (O) CNG MT at ₹10.79 lakh ex-showroom, about ₹12.62 lakh on the road in Mumbai, is the one to buy. For ₹80,000 over the base MX Edge, it adds a panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, push-button start, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, electrically folding mirrors and roof rails, a genuinely large comfort jump for the money. The range-topping REVX A at ₹12.27 lakh mainly adds a 6-speaker system over the AX5; worth it only if you specifically want the tech-focused AX cabin with CNG running costs.
Buy the REVX Edge (O). The AX5 above it is a step backward in comfort dressed up as a step forward in price.

How It Stacks Up Against the Nexon CNG
The Tata Nexon, the XUV 3XO’s closest sub-4-metre SUV rival, undercuts it on CNG entry price: the Nexon Smart CNG MT starts at ₹8.35 lakh ex-showroom on The Spec’d’s own figures, nearly ₹1.64 lakh less than the XUV 3XO CNG’s ₹9.99 lakh starting point. Tata has been selling the Nexon CNG since 2024 and the kit is a known quantity by now; Mahindra is newer to factory CNG on this platform, so there’s less long-term ownership data to go on either way.

Is the CNG Worth It Over the Petrol or Diesel?
If most of your driving is city commuting where CNG’s lower running cost actually gets used, yes: the MX Edge CNG costs just ₹2.20 lakh more ex-showroom than the base MX1 petrol, and CNG at current Indian pump prices runs noticeably cheaper per km than petrol on the same engine. If you drive highway distances regularly, where the dual-cylinder CNG tank means more fuel stops than the 42-litre petrol tank, the diesel MX2 at ₹9.36 lakh ex-showroom is still the better fit.
Is the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG available with an automatic gearbox?
No. All four CNG variants are manual-only for now; the automatic is exclusive to the petrol and diesel versions.
How much boot space does the XUV 3XO CNG lose?
Mahindra’s own figures put it at 270 litres against 364 litres on the petrol, a 94-litre drop from the twin CNG cylinders mounted under the boot floor.
Is the XUV 3XO CNG cheaper than the Tata Nexon CNG?
No. The Nexon’s CNG range starts at ₹8.35 lakh ex-showroom, nearly ₹1.64 lakh below the XUV 3XO CNG’s ₹9.99 lakh entry price, per The Spec’d’s own price pages.
