The Maruti Suzuki Dzire’s on-road price is not one number, it is 39 different numbers, and the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive city is ₹72,000 on the base trim alone. The LXi Petrol MT comes to about ₹6.92 lakh on the road in Puducherry and ₹7.64 lakh in Visakhapatnam, almost entirely because of road tax. If you are shopping this festive season, the variant actually worth buying is not the LXi you see in ads, it is the mid-spec ZXi Petrol MT.

Maruti Dzire On-Road Price in Mumbai, by Variant
On The Spec’d’s Mumbai price page, here is what every variant actually costs on the road, not just the ex-showroom figure Maruti advertises:
| Variant | Ex-showroom | On-road (Mumbai) |
| LXi Petrol MT | ₹6.31L | ₹7.37L |
| VXi Petrol MT | ₹7.27L | ₹8.48L |
| VXi Petrol AMT | ₹7.72L | ₹8.99L |
| VXi CNG MT | ₹8.18L | ₹9.52L |
| ZXi Petrol MT | ₹8.28L | ₹9.63L |
| VXi CNG AMT | ₹8.53L | ₹9.92L |
| ZXi Petrol AMT | ₹8.73L | ₹10.15L |
| ZXi+ Petrol MT | ₹8.96L | ₹10.42L |
| ZXi CNG MT | ₹9.19L | ₹10.67L |
| ZXi+ Petrol AMT | ₹9.41L | ₹10.93L |
| ZXi CNG AMT | ₹9.54L | ₹11.07L |
On the base LXi, Mumbai’s 11% road tax, insurance and FASTag add ₹1.06 lakh over the ₹6.31 lakh ex-showroom price. That tax rate is why the city-wise number moves around so much, and it is also why a single Delhi or Mumbai figure, which is what most competing sites quote, tells you nothing about what you will actually pay in Kochi or Lucknow.
Why the Same Car Costs ₹72,000 More in Visakhapatnam
Road tax in India is a state subject, and it shows. On our city price pages, the LXi Petrol MT’s on-road price is cheapest in Puducherry at about ₹6.92 lakh, where the tax rate is just 4%. It is most expensive in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, tied at about ₹7.64 lakh, where Andhra Pradesh charges 15.4%. That is a ₹72,000 swing on a car with an identical ex-showroom price, and it is the single biggest reason the on-road figure you see on a Mumbai-only price page is useless if you live anywhere else.
If you register through an employer with offices in four or more states, a BH-series plate is worth checking. Our Mumbai page works it out to about ₹7,126 every two years, against ₹69,366 paid once under the regular Maharashtra plate. Over 14 years, the BH route adds up to roughly ₹49,882, a real saving if you actually qualify and expect to move cities.

Which Variant Is Actually Worth Buying
Buy the ZXi Petrol MT at ₹8.28 lakh ex-showroom. It costs ₹1.01 lakh more than the VXi Petrol MT, and for that you get alloy wheels, automatic climate control and push-button start, the three things that make a cheap sedan stop feeling cheap in daily traffic. The ZXi+ adds a 360-degree camera, cruise control and a single-pane sunroof for another ₹68,600, nice to have but not essential if your budget is tight.
Every Dzire variant, including the LXi, gets 6 airbags as standard. Bharat NCAP gave the petrol Dzire 5 stars for adults (29.46/32) and 5 stars for children (41.57/49) in 2025, and Global NCAP scored it 5 stars for adults in 2024. The CNG version has not been separately crash tested.
If you want an automatic, the VXi Petrol AMT at ₹7.72 lakh is the cheapest one Maruti sells, ₹45,000 over the equivalent manual. CNG costs ₹81,000 to ₹91,000 more than the equivalent petrol trim depending on gearbox, and it only makes sense if you are driving well over 1,500 km a month, where the running-cost gap below starts to pay for itself.
Claimed Mileage vs What Testers Actually Got
Maruti’s claimed figures and what you will see in real traffic are two different numbers. Autocar India ran an instrumented city and highway test on the petrol Dzire, and the gap is worth knowing before you budget your fuel costs:
| Variant | Claimed (lab test) | Autocar’s real-world test |
| Petrol MT | 24.79 kmpl | 17.25 kmpl overall (14.5 city / 20 highway) |
| Petrol AMT | 25.71 kmpl | 15.41 kmpl overall (11.61 city / 19.22 highway) |
No independent real-world test of the CNG variants has been published yet, so treat Maruti’s claimed 33.73 to 36.47 km/kg as a lab number only. On our mileage page, the running cost works out to ₹4,030 per 1,000 km on petrol MT against ₹2,370 on CNG MT, at ₹100 a litre and ₹80 a kg.
EMI on the Mumbai On-Road Price
Worked on the LXi’s ₹7.37 lakh on-road price in Mumbai, with 20% down and a 5-year loan at 9.5% interest, the EMI comes to about ₹12,382 a month, per The Spec’d’s Mumbai price page. The ZXi Petrol MT’s ₹9.63 lakh on-road price pushes that to roughly ₹16,170 on the same terms, so budget the step-up before the showroom’s LXi sticker price tempts you.

How It Compares to the Amaze and the Tigor
The Dzire’s 24.79 kmpl claimed petrol-MT mileage beats the Honda Amaze’s ARAI-rated 19.46 kmpl by a wide margin, though Autocar’s real-world test above shows claimed numbers do not travel in a straight line to your fuel bill. For a full breakdown against its two closest rivals, see our Dzire vs Tigor comparison, or browse every option in the segment on our sedan cars list.
The LXi gets you into a Dzire for under ₹7.4 lakh on the road in most cities, but the ZXi Petrol MT is the one that stops feeling like the base model the moment you drive it out of the showroom.
Which Maruti Dzire variant should I buy?
The ZXi Petrol MT at ₹8.28 lakh ex-showroom. It adds alloy wheels, automatic climate control and push-button start over the VXi for ₹1.01 lakh, which matters more day to day than the ZXi+’s sunroof and 360-degree camera.
Is the Dzire AMT worth paying extra for?
Only if you drive in heavy traffic daily. It costs ₹45,000 to ₹68,600 more than the equivalent manual, and Autocar’s real-world test found the AMT actually returns worse city mileage than the manual, 11.61 kmpl against 14.5 kmpl, because its gearbox holds lower gears longer.
How much more does the CNG Dzire cost to buy and run?
CNG variants cost ₹81,000 to ₹91,000 more upfront than the equivalent petrol trim, but running cost drops to about ₹2,370 per 1,000 km against ₹4,030 on petrol, so the extra cost pays back once you are driving well over 1,500 km a month.
