Kia Seltos On-Road Price: The ₹1.43 Lakh City Gap

The Kia Seltos costs ₹1.43 Lakh more on the road in Vizag than in Surat. Here is the city-wise price, EMI and the variant actually worth buying.

The Kia Seltos starts at ₹13.15 Lakh on the road in Mumbai, but the exact same HTE Petrol MT costs ₹12.46 Lakh in Surat and ₹13.89 Lakh in Visakhapatnam, a ₹1.43 Lakh swing driven almost entirely by state road tax. If you are choosing a variant, skip the plain GTX and X-Line trims: they drop the safety tech that the cheaper HTX(A) already has.

Kia Seltos On-Road Price Across India

Ex-showroom, the base HTE Petrol MT costs ₹11.25 Lakh, a figure Kia revised up from ₹10.99 Lakh on 1 October 2026. Add road tax, insurance and FASTag, and the on-road figure moves with every state’s tax slab, from The Spec’d’s city price pages:

CityOn-Road PriceRoad Tax Rate
Surat (cheapest)₹12.46 Lakh6%
Ahmedabad₹12.48 Lakh6%
New Delhi₹12.93 Lakh10%
Mumbai₹13.15 Lakh12%
Kolkata₹12.93 Lakh10%
Bengaluru₹13.73 Lakh17%
Chennai₹13.85 Lakh18%
Hyderabad₹13.88 Lakh18%
Visakhapatnam (dearest)₹13.89 Lakh18.7%

Gujarat and Puducherry keep road tax under 7%, which is why Surat and Ahmedabad lead the cheap end. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka charge 17-18.7% on the same ex-showroom price, which is the entire gap. If you work for a central government department, a PSU, defence or a company with offices in four or more states, a BH-series plate charges about ₹10,714 every two years on the Seltos, roughly ₹74,998 over 14 years against ₹1.35 Lakh paid once on a regular Maharashtra plate, but only register BH-series where you actually qualify, not to dodge your home state’s tax.

Which Variant Is Actually Worth Buying

The Seltos runs 38 variants across three engines: a 115 PS 1.5-litre petrol, a 116 PS 1.5-litre diesel, and a 160 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with a 7-speed DCT. The ladder has a real trap in the middle: once you cross into the GTX and X-Line trims without the “(A)” suffix, you lose the Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera that the cheaper HTX(A) already has, in exchange for 18-inch wheels and memory seats.

VariantEx-ShowroomWhat You Get
HTE Petrol MT₹11.25 LakhBase, 6 airbags, no touchscreen upgrade
HTK(O) Petrol MT₹14.52 LakhPanoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, wireless charging
HTX(A) Petrol MT (best value)₹17.02 LakhLevel 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, digital cluster
GTX Petrol IVT (skip this)₹18.72 Lakh18-inch wheels, memory seat, but no ADAS or 360 camera
X-Line(O) Turbo DCT (top)₹21.57 LakhLevel 2+ ADAS (28 features), HUD, dashcam, digital key

Buy the HTX(A) Petrol MT at ₹17.02 Lakh. It is the cheapest Seltos with Kia’s Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera, and every variant above it until the ₹21.57 Lakh flagships either repeats that safety kit at a turbo or diesel premium, or quietly drops it.

If you want the turbo-petrol’s 160 PS and still want ADAS, the HTX(A) Turbo Petrol DCT at ₹19.12 Lakh is the one to pick, not the GTX Turbo DCT at ₹19.52 Lakh, which costs more for the same engine and fewer safety features. Diesel buyers face the same split: the HTX(A) Diesel MT at ₹18.64 Lakh keeps ADAS, the plain GTX Diesel AT at ₹19.99 Lakh does not.

Claimed Mileage vs What Owners Actually Get

Kia claims 19.4 kmpl for the diesel manual, the best figure in the range, and 17.8 kmpl for the diesel automatic. Autocar India’s instrumented test of the same 116 PS diesel-automatic engine and 6-speed torque converter returned 12.9 kmpl in the city and 17.8 kmpl on the highway, a combined 15.35 kmpl, well under the claimed figure once city traffic enters the mix. No independent test of this generation’s diesel manual has been published yet, so treat 19.4 kmpl as a lab number until one shows up.

EngineClaimed (ARAI)Running Cost per 1,000 km
Diesel, manual19.4 kmpl₹4,640
Diesel, automatic17.8 kmpl₹5,060
Turbo-petrol, DCT17.5 kmpl₹5,710
Petrol, manual/IVT16.5 kmpl₹6,060

Running costs are The Spec’d’s own figures, worked out at ₹90 a litre of diesel and ₹100 a litre of petrol on the claimed mileage, so real-world fuel bills will run higher. The 50-litre tank takes the diesel manual about 960 km between fill-ups at the claimed figure.

What It Costs a Month, and How It Stacks Up

On The Spec’d’s EMI calculator, the base Seltos works out to about ₹22,095 a month in Mumbai, on 20% down and a 5-year loan at 9.5% interest, against the ₹13.15 Lakh Mumbai on-road price. Against its closest rivals in the same city, the Seltos sits in the middle of the pack:

CarOn-Road in Mumbai
Maruti Suzuki Victoris₹12.28 Lakh
Hyundai Creta₹12.75 Lakh
Kia Seltos₹13.15 Lakh
Tata Sierra₹13.43 Lakh
MG Hector₹14.01 Lakh

The Seltos costs ₹40,000 more than the Creta it is most often cross-shopped against, but it is the only one of these five with 6 airbags standard on every variant and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating (31.70/32 for adults) that covers the base trim, not just the top one. If ADAS at a reasonable price is the priority, see every ADAS-equipped car under ₹20 Lakh before you decide.

What is the on-road price of the Kia Seltos in Mumbai?

It starts at ₹13.15 Lakh for the HTE Petrol MT: ₹11.25 Lakh ex-showroom, ₹1.35 Lakh road tax at Maharashtra’s 12% rate, and about ₹55,000 for insurance and FASTag. The top X-Line(O) Diesel AT comes to ₹26.03 Lakh on the road in the same city.

Which Kia Seltos variant should I buy?

The HTX(A) Petrol MT at ₹17.02 Lakh. It is the cheapest trim with Kia’s Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera, features that the plain GTX and X-Line trims above it drop unless you pay extra for the “(A)” or “(O)” suffix.

Is the Kia Seltos diesel automatic’s claimed mileage realistic?

Not fully. Kia claims 17.8 kmpl, but Autocar India’s real-world test of the same diesel-automatic powertrain returned 12.9 kmpl in the city and 17.8 kmpl on the highway, a combined 15.35 kmpl. Expect city-heavy driving to pull the number down further.
