Brezza vs Grand Vitara: The Hybrid Costs ₹6.7 Lakh More

The Grand Vitara’s hybrid efficiency only arrives at ₹16.68 Lakh, far above the Brezza’s. Here is the real on-road price, safety and mileage gap.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza starts at ₹7.49 Lakh ex-showroom and the Grand Vitara at ₹10.77 Lakh, a ₹3.28 Lakh gap before either car is even loaded with features. The number that matters more: the Grand Vitara’s headline Strong Hybrid, the one claiming 27.97 kmpl, isn’t available below the ₹16.68 Lakh Delta+ trim, which is ₹6.73 Lakh above the Brezza’s own best-value pick. If you came here hoping for hybrid mileage on a compact-SUV budget, it isn’t on the table.

Both share Maruti’s 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine, so on paper they are closer rivals than the price tags suggest, right up until you want the hybrid, more boot space, or simply the cheapest way into a 6-airbag SUV. Here is where every number actually lands.

Price and On-Road Cost in Mumbai

On The Spec’d’s own city price page, the Brezza’s entry LXi Turbo Petrol MT comes to about ₹8.68 Lakh on the road in Mumbai, while the Grand Vitara’s on-road price page puts its Sigma Petrol MT at about ₹12.59 Lakh, a ₹3.91 Lakh real-world gap once road tax, insurance and FASTag are added in.

VariantEx-showroomOn-road, MumbaiEMI (20% down, 5 yrs)
Brezza LXi Turbo Petrol MT (cheapest)₹7.49 Lakh₹8.68 Lakh₹14,576/mo
Brezza ZXi Turbo Petrol MT (best value)₹9.95 Lakh₹11.48 LakhN/A
Grand Vitara Sigma Petrol MT (cheapest)₹10.77 Lakh₹12.59 Lakh₹21,154/mo
Grand Vitara Zeta Petrol MT (best value)₹13.85 Lakh₹16.16 LakhN/A
Grand Vitara Delta+ Strong Hybrid e-CVT (cheapest hybrid)₹16.68 Lakh₹19.43 LakhN/A

Those EMIs are worked on the Brezza’s and the Grand Vitara’s EMI pages, both at 20% down over five years at 9.5% interest on the Mumbai on-road price, so the Grand Vitara’s entry trim already costs ₹6,578 more a month than the Brezza’s.

Which Variant Is Actually Worth Buying

Buy the Brezza’s ZXi Turbo Petrol MT. At ₹9.95 Lakh ex-showroom it adds LED projector headlamps, alloy wheels, cruise control and auto climate control over the base LXi, and it’s the one Maruti itself flags as the best-value pick. Skip the ZXi+ unless you specifically want the 360-degree camera and head-up display; it adds ₹1.31 Lakh for features you’ll use rarely.

On the Grand Vitara, buy the Zeta Petrol MT at ₹13.85 Lakh, which brings alloy wheels, cruise control, TPMS and ventilated front seats. The Zeta (O) just above it adds a panoramic sunroof for only ₹4,100 more, an easy yes if you want it; everything above Alpha starts chasing features most buyers won’t use twice a year.

The Airbag and ADAS Gap Nobody Mentions

This is the one spec sheet detail that actually changes who should buy which car. The Brezza ships with 6 airbags standard on every single trim, including the ₹7.49 Lakh base LXi, and its petrol versions carry a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for both adult (30.41/32) and child occupants (43/49); the CNG version hasn’t been separately tested.

The Grand Vitara reserves its 6th airbag for the Alpha, Zeta and Hybrid trims; the base Sigma and Delta get dual front airbags only. It also carries no ADAS on any version, and Maruti has not submitted it for a crash-test rating at all. If 6 airbags at any price point matter to you, the Brezza gets there for ₹3.28 Lakh less.

Does the Hybrid Actually Save You Money?

On claimed figures, yes: the Grand Vitara’s Strong Hybrid is rated 27.97 kmpl against the Brezza’s 21.09 kmpl for its naturally aspirated petrol manual, both ARAI test numbers, not anything The Spec’d has independently verified.

PowertrainClaimed mileageRunning cost per 1,000 km
Brezza, Petrol MT21.09 kmpl₹4,740
Brezza, Petrol AT20.17 kmpl₹4,960
Brezza, CNG MT26.90 km/kg₹2,970
Grand Vitara, Petrol MT21.11 kmpl₹4,740
Grand Vitara, CNG MT26.60 km/kg₹3,010
Grand Vitara, Strong Hybrid e-CVT27.97 kmpl₹3,580

Per the Grand Vitara’s own mileage page, that’s a ₹1,160 saving per 1,000 km versus the Brezza’s petrol manual, which runs at an almost identical cost to the Grand Vitara’s own non-hybrid petrol. Against the ₹6.73 Lakh premium to step up from the Brezza’s best-value pick into that hybrid, you’d need to drive well over 500,000 km before fuel savings alone paid it back. Buy the hybrid for the EV-mode refinement and the badge, not the payback period.

Boot Space: The Hybrid’s Hidden Cost

The Grand Vitara’s regular petrol gives you 373 litres of boot, comfortably ahead of the Brezza’s 328 litres (unchanged even on CNG, since the cylinder sits under the floor). But the Strong Hybrid’s battery pack lives under the Grand Vitara’s boot floor too, and it costs 108 litres: hybrid trims drop to 265 litres, less than the Brezza you could have bought for ₹6.73 Lakh less.

CNG, If That’s Your Deciding Factor

The Brezza offers CNG across three trim levels, LXi, VXi and ZXi, so you can get factory CNG with alloy wheels and auto climate control at ₹11.6 Lakh. The Grand Vitara’s CNG tops out at the Zeta trim (₹14.65 Lakh); you cannot get CNG with the sunroof, the hybrid, or AWD on the Grand Vitara at any price.

Buy the Brezza if 6 airbags, CNG flexibility and a lower EMI matter more than outright space. Buy the Grand Vitara only if you’re committed to spending past ₹16.68 Lakh for the hybrid, or want the AWD option at the top of its range; its mid-range petrol trims cost more than the Brezza for no real efficiency gain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is cheaper, the Brezza or the Grand Vitara?

The Brezza, at every comparable trim. Its ex-showroom range runs ₹7.49 Lakh to ₹13.55 Lakh against the Grand Vitara’s ₹10.77 Lakh to ₹19.62 Lakh, and the gap only widens once you want the Grand Vitara’s hybrid.

Does the Grand Vitara’s hybrid actually save fuel costs?

On claimed figures it cuts running cost by about ₹1,160 per 1,000 km versus a petrol-manual Brezza, but the ₹6.73 Lakh premium to access it would take over 500,000 km of driving to recover through fuel savings alone, per The Spec’d’s own mileage pages.

Which has better safety features?

The Brezza. It has 6 airbags standard on every trim and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating on its petrol versions. The Grand Vitara limits 6 airbags to its Alpha, Zeta and Hybrid trims, has no ADAS on any version, and hasn’t been crash tested.
