Tata Aeris On-Road Price Gap: ₹60,000 by City

The Tata Aeris on-road price swings ₹60,000 between cities on road tax alone. Here is the city breakdown, EMI and the variant worth buying.

The Tata Aeris starts at ₹5.3 Lakh ex-showroom, but what you actually pay on the road swings by about ₹60,000 depending on which of India’s 39 cities you register it in, according to The Spec’d’s own city price pages. Puducherry and Delhi are the cheapest places to buy one at ₹5.84 Lakh on-road; Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are the most expensive at ₹6.44 Lakh, purely because of how much road tax each state charges. The variant actually worth your money is the Creative Petrol MT, not the base car or the top-spec Accomplished.

We reviewed the Aeris in detail when it launched in September. This piece answers the narrower question buyers type into Google next: what does it actually cost to put one on the road, city by city, and which variant makes sense once that number is in front of you.

Tata Aeris On-Road Price: The City-Wise Gap

Road tax is the only thing that changes the Aeris’s price between cities; the ex-showroom figure is fixed nationally. On the base Smart Petrol MT (₹5.3 Lakh ex-showroom), here is what that tax does to the final bill:

CityRoad Tax RateOn-Road Price
Puducherry4%₹5.84 Lakh
New Delhi4%₹5.84 Lakh
Kolkata5.5%₹5.92 Lakh
Ahmedabad6%₹5.95 Lakh
Mumbai11%₹6.22 Lakh
Bengaluru14%₹6.39 Lakh
Hyderabad14%₹6.43 Lakh
Visakhapatnam15.4%₹6.44 Lakh

That is a ₹60,000 swing on a car whose cheapest variant costs ₹5.3 Lakh ex-showroom, which is a bigger percentage shift than most buyers expect. If you work in a state for less than the registration period and qualify for a BH-series plate, the Aeris pays about ₹5,989 in road tax every two years in Maharashtra, roughly ₹41,923 total over 14 years, against ₹58,299 paid once on a regular Maharashtra plate. That only makes sense if you genuinely expect to move states again; otherwise the one-time regular plate works out cheaper over the car’s life.

Which Variant Is Actually Worth Buying

The Aeris comes in 18 variants once you count the petrol, iCNG, manual and AMT splits across five trims. Most buyers only need to look at three price steps:

VariantEx-ShowroomStep Over Base
Smart Petrol MT (base)₹5.3 Lakh–
Pure Petrol AMT (cheapest automatic)₹6.7 Lakh+₹1.4 Lakh
Smart iCNG MT (cheapest CNG)₹6.3 Lakh+₹1 Lakh
Creative Petrol MT (best value)₹7.49 Lakh+₹2.2 Lakh
Accomplished iCNG AMT (top)₹9.75 Lakh+₹4.45 Lakh

Buy the Creative Petrol MT. At ₹7.49 Lakh ex-showroom, ₹8.74 Lakh on-road in Mumbai per our price page, it is the first trim that adds a 360-degree camera with a blind-view monitor, LED headlamps, automatic climate control, wireless charging, a built-in dashcam and leatherette seats over the Pure+ below it. The Accomplished above it adds ventilated front seats and a second wireless charging pad for another ₹2.9 Lakh over the base car, features you will use occasionally, not daily. Skip it unless ventilated seats matter to you specifically.

If you need CNG, the iCNG kit shaves the boot from 419 litres to 227 litres on every variant, and costs about ₹1 Lakh more than the equivalent petrol trim. That is a real trade-off for anyone who actually uses the boot, not a rounding error.

EMI and Running Cost

On The Spec’d’s EMI calculator, the base Aeris works out to about ₹10,443 a month in Mumbai, on 20% down and a 5-year loan at 9.5% interest, calculated on the Mumbai on-road price. Change the city and that number moves with the on-road price, not just the ex-showroom figure, so a Delhi or Puducherry buyer’s EMI will come in lower than Mumbai’s.

The number nobody can give you yet is mileage. Tata has not published an ARAI figure for the Aeris. The outgoing Tigor, which uses the same 1.2-litre engine, was rated 19.28 to 19.6 kmpl on petrol and 28.06 km/kg on CNG. Treat that as a reasonable guide, not a promise, until the Aeris gets its own certified number.

How the Aeris Compares on Price

At ₹5.3 Lakh to ₹9.75 Lakh ex-showroom, the Aeris undercuts the Maruti Dzire at the entry rung while matching it on six airbags standard, a genuine point of difference from rivals that charge extra for the full set. It also sits in our list of every car under ₹10 lakh, worth a look if you are cross-shopping the segment rather than set on a Tata badge specifically.
