BMW Cuts Profit Margin Target to Just 3-5% by 2028, Will Axe 8,000 German Jobs

Why it stands out
- 653 hp from a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor stacked on top gives the XM a shove no other BMW SUV in India can touch, and it still does 80 to 88 km on battery alone for the school run.
- It is the first standalone M car since the M1, so the badge is genuinely something nobody else in the valet queue has.
- The plug-in setup splits neatly along the way Indian owners actually drive, near silent through city traffic and full V8 theatre once you clear the toll booth.
Worth knowing
- The 61.9 kmpl WLTP claim is a plug-in hybrid test artefact, and Autocar India says flatly it will be hard to replicate once the 25.7 kWh pack runs flat.
- At Rs 2.55 crore it sits squarely in Lamborghini Urus SE and Aston Martin DBX707 territory, and the XM's styling divides opinion in a way neither of those does.
- It arrives as a fully imported CBU, so a large slice of that price is import duty rather than car, and it has been on sale here in essentially this form since 2023.
