The Kia Seltos just scored 76.70 out of a possible 81 under Bharat NCAP, a 5-star result and the highest combined score any petrol or diesel car has posted under India’s own crash-test programme so far. The Hyundai Creta hasn’t been tested under Bharat NCAP at all; its only public score is a 3-star Global NCAP result from 2022, on a pre-facelift car with 2 airbags. Ex-showroom, the two start close: ₹10.91 lakh for the Creta, ₹11.25 lakh for the Seltos. But once you add safety data, ADAS, and what each one actually costs on the road in October 2026, the gap stops being close.
Both are 1.5-litre petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel mid-size SUVs on shared Hyundai-Kia underpinnings, cross-shopped by nearly every buyer in this segment. Here’s what the spec sheets don’t say plainly.

Which One Actually Scores Better on Crash Safety?
This is the sharpest difference between the two, and it isn’t close. The second-generation Seltos was tested under Bharat NCAP in March 2026 and scored 31.70 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection, a combined 76.70 that Kia says is the best any ICE car has recorded under the programme. CarDekho, Gaadify and Vahanbazaar all reported the same figures independently.
The Creta’s only public crash result is still the pre-facelift car’s 3-star Global NCAP score from 2022: 8 out of 17 for adults, 28.29 out of 49 for children, on a test car with just 2 airbags. The current 6-airbag facelift hasn’t been through Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP at all, so there’s no current score for the car you’d actually be buying. That doesn’t mean it’s unsafe; it means nobody has published a number for it yet.

Where Does ADAS Actually Start on Each One?
This is the part most comparison tables flatten into a single “Yes/Yes” row, and it matters more than the badge on the boot.
Hyundai dropped the Creta’s SX Tech and SX(O) trims in May 2026. SX Tech used to be the cheapest way into Hyundai SmartSense, the Creta’s ADAS suite; with it gone, only the top-spec King still gets ADAS, reported independently by Autocar India and CarBike360. On The Spec’d’s own Creta price page for Mumbai, the cheapest King is the King Petrol MT at ₹17.28 lakh ex-showroom, ₹20.12 lakh on the road.
The Seltos doesn’t push ADAS that far up. Per Autocar India’s and CarDekho’s variant listings, the HTX(A) is the first Seltos trim with adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot monitor, both outlets independently pricing it at ₹17.02 lakh ex-showroom, matching The Spec’d’s own Seltos city price page, where it comes to about ₹19.83 lakh on the road in Mumbai, roughly ₹29,000 less than the cheapest ADAS Creta. Kia also added a more advanced “ADAS F+” package, with evasive steering assist and a head-up display, on the GTX(O) and X-Line(O) top trims from mid-2026, at ₹21.57 lakh ex-showroom.

On-Road Price in Mumbai: Which Is Actually Cheaper?
At entry level, the Creta is the cheaper car to register. The base E Petrol MT comes to about ₹12.75 lakh on the road in Mumbai (₹10.91 lakh ex-showroom, per The Spec’d’s Creta city price page), against ₹13.15 lakh for the Seltos’s base HTE Petrol MT. On a 5-year loan at 9.5% interest with 20% down, that’s an EMI of about ₹21,430 a month for the Creta versus ₹22,095 for the Seltos, both worked on their Mumbai on-road price.
The city you register in moves the number more than the brand does. Surat is the cheapest of the 39 cities The Spec’d prices for both cars: the Creta’s entry variant comes to ₹12.09 lakh there, ₹66,567 less than in Mumbai, mostly because Gujarat charges a lower road tax slab than Maharashtra’s 12%. The Seltos sees a near-identical swing, ₹68,654 cheaper in Surat than Mumbai.
| City (on-road, base petrol MT) | Hyundai Creta E | Kia Seltos HTE |
| Surat (cheapest of 39 cities) | ₹12.09 Lakh | ₹12.46 Lakh |
| Mumbai | ₹12.75 Lakh | ₹13.15 Lakh |
| Monthly EMI (20% down, 5 yrs, 9.5%) | ≈₹21,430 | ≈₹22,095 |
Which Variant Should You Actually Buy?
If ADAS matters to you, and it should given how many near-misses happen in city traffic, skip both the cheapest trims. Buy the Seltos HTX(A) Petrol MT at ₹17.02 lakh ex-showroom: it’s the first trim with adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, it undercuts the Creta’s ADAS entry price, and it rides on a car that’s already posted the better crash score. If you’d rather stay with Hyundai, the Creta King Petrol MT at ₹17.28 lakh ex-showroom is the only way in; nothing below it gets you SmartSense anymore, so don’t buy the mid-spec SX Premium thinking you’re getting a deal on safety kit, because you aren’t getting ADAS either way below King.

Running Costs: What the Mileage Claims Don’t Tell You
The Creta’s diesel manual claims 21.8 kmpl against the Seltos diesel manual’s 19.4 kmpl, both ARAI lab figures, not road results. On The Spec’d’s own running-cost page, the Creta diesel manual works out to about ₹4,130 per 1,000 km at ₹90 a litre. Neither car has a published, independently tested real-world mileage figure for its current generation, so treat both ARAI numbers as a ceiling, not a promise, especially in city traffic with the air-conditioning on. Both share the same engine menu too: a 115-116 PS 1.5-litre petrol, a 160 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 116 PS 1.5-litre diesel, with identical 433-litre boots on the official spec sheet, despite some older comparison pieces quoting a size difference based on an earlier Seltos generation.
Which is safer, the Hyundai Creta or the Kia Seltos?
The Kia Seltos, based on published crash data. It holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating from 2026 with a combined score of 76.70 out of 81. The current Creta hasn’t been tested under Bharat NCAP; its only public score is a 3-star Global NCAP result from 2022 on the older, pre-facelift car.
Which Creta and Seltos variants come with ADAS?
On the Creta, only the King trim and above, after Hyundai discontinued the cheaper SX Tech and SX(O) trims in May 2026. On the Seltos, ADAS features start from the HTX(A) trim upward, with a more advanced “ADAS F+” package added on the top GTX(O) and X-Line(O) trims.
Is the Kia Seltos more expensive than the Hyundai Creta?
At the entry level, yes, by about ₹40,000 on the road in Mumbai. But the gap narrows once you compare the ADAS-equipped variants each brand actually recommends: the Seltos’s HTX(A) comes in about ₹29,000 cheaper than the Creta’s cheapest ADAS trim, the King Petrol MT.
