Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Unveiled: India’s New Lifestyle Pickup, Launching by April 2027

Mahindra has unveiled the production-ready Scorpio Lifestyler in Mumbai. Real design, real price, but not on sale until April 2027. Here is exactly what is confirmed and what is still an educated guess.

Mahindra finally pulled the covers off its global pickup truck, and it was worth the wait. At an event in Mumbai on 14 August 2026, the company showed off the production-ready version of the truck it first teased as a concept in Cape Town all the way back in August 2023. It is going on sale in India as the Scorpio Lifestyler, with a starting price under ₹19.79 lakh ex-showroom.

Now, before you get too excited and start browsing dealer stock: this was an unveiling, not a launch. You cannot walk into a showroom and order one yet, and Mahindra has been upfront that you will not be able to until by April 2027. What we actually got yesterday was the real production design, the real name, three fully realised colour editions and a confirmed starting price. What we did not get was an order book or a full spec sheet. So think of this as the reveal, with the real buying decision still a while away.

What was actually shown

Internally, Mahindra has been calling this the “Global Pik Up.” In India it wears the Scorpio Lifestyler badge; everywhere else, it drops the Scorpio name entirely and becomes the Mahindra Lifestyler. It sits on Mahindra’s next-generation body-on-frame architecture, was styled at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai, and was engineered at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, the same in-house teams behind the Scorpio N and the Thar Roxx.

“From the outset, our vision was to create a world-class global pickup that raises the bar for the segment while remaining true to Mahindra’s strengths in authentic capability and value. The Scorpio Lifestyler is a testament to the strong product development capabilities at Mahindra Research Valley. Built on our advanced next-generation body-on-frame architecture, it has been engineered to deliver the capability, durability, safety and refinement demanded by customers around the world.”

Three editions, three completely different moods

Instead of wheeling out one launch trim, Mahindra showed the Lifestyler in three distinct personalities, each with its own paint and its own pitch to buyers:

EditionFinishPositioning
ValleyArtemis GreyA blend of work and leisure, practical without giving up refinement
ReefAquareefBuilt for the outdoors, freedom and exploration
TrailSahara BeigeBold, adventurous, the go-anywhere version of the three

Design chief Pratap Bose put it best: this is one idea, told three ways.

“The Scorpio Lifestyler is inspired by how our customers work, play and explore. Combining bold exterior design, plush interiors and SUV-like comfort with unmistakable Mahindra toughness, it brings style and refinement to every journey. Valley celebrates purposeful refinement, Reef embodies freedom and exploration, and Trail captures the spirit of boundless adventure.”
– Pratap Bose, Chief Design and Creative Officer, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Now, about that engine

Here is the part worth reading slowly before you go hunting for a spec sheet anywhere else: Mahindra has not confirmed an engine, gearbox or performance figure for the Scorpio Lifestyler. Several outlets are reporting an expected 2.2 litre mHawk diesel making 172 bhp and 400 Nm, the same tune already doing duty in the Scorpio N, paired with a 6 speed manual or automatic and a choice of 2WD or 4WD. Given the Lifestyler shares its bones with the Scorpio N, that is a sensible guess. But it is still a guess, borrowed from a related model, not a number Mahindra has put its name to. Take it as a strong hint rather than a fact until an actual spec sheet shows up closer to launch.

Price and timeline: the two things that are actually locked in

Mahindra did confirm two hard numbers on stage:

  • Price: starting under ₹19.79 lakh, ex-showroom, in India
  • Timeline: on sale “by April 2027,” in India and every international market at once

CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta was refreshingly candid about why Mahindra is showing a truck this far ahead of its own showroom date:

“As we prepare for its India launch, we see a growing appetite among customers for a vehicle that delivers authentic capability without compromising on technology, safety, comfort or everyday usability. We are investing in building awareness, strengthening our network and creating the right ownership experience for this category.”
– Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

A genuinely global truck

Unlike most Mahindras, this one was built to travel. Outside India it launches simply as the “Mahindra Lifestyler” across Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, the rest of Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, all places where the midsize lifestyle pickup already sells well and where Mahindra already has commercial-vehicle roots to build on.

The Spec’d take

In India, the Lifestyler is aimed squarely at the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu’s V Cross, the two trucks that currently own this segment. That sub-₹19.79 lakh starting price alone tells you the strategy: it undercuts the Hilux’s real starting price by well over ₹12 lakh. Whether that gap survives once a real spec sheet, real variants and real dealer pricing show up eighteen months from now is the story worth watching. We will have the full breakdown the moment Mahindra confirms an engine. In the meantime, see exactly how the two trucks stack up on everything that is actually confirmed today in our Scorpio Lifestyler vs Toyota Hilux comparison.
