The Spec'd take

Why it stands out

  • A big 652 cc liquid-cooled single with 55 Nm at 4,000 rpm, so it has a proper thumper shove from low revs rather than needing to be wrung out.
  • Brembo brakes (a 320 mm front disc with a twin-piston floating caliper) and Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres come standard, which is premium kit for a retro roadster.
  • A 782 mm seat and a claimed 201 kg in working order keep it approachable for shorter riders.
  • The look is the whole point: round headlamp, twin shocks, 36-spoke rims and a flat bench seat nod straight to the original Gold Stars.
  • Priced per colour, it starts at Rs 3,34,950 ex-showroom Delhi in Highland Green, with Insignia Red at Rs 3,41,950 and Shadow Black at Rs 3,45,950.

Worth knowing

  • Only a five-speed gearbox, where Royal Enfield's 650 twins have six, so motorway cruising is a little busier.
  • BSA's specifications list ABS as the only electronic aid, with no traction control, riding modes or digital display mentioned.
  • A 12 L tank at about 25 kmpl (WMTC) works out to roughly 300 km on paper, which is short for a bike with touring appeal.
  • The Legacy Edition in Sheen Silver costs Rs 25,000 more than Highland Green, and BSA's page does not say what the extra money buys beyond the paint and edition.
