Why it stands out
- It is built at BMW's Chennai plant rather than imported, which is the whole reason you get a 369 bhp turbo straight-six for around Rs 77 lakh instead of the crore-plus a CBU would demand.
- Autocar India's track comparison against the Mercedes-AMG C 43 found the M340i the more cohesive and forgiving car of the two, with its bigger engine feeling far more effortless when pushed.
- It is a proper four-door with a real boot, so unlike the M2 and M4 it genuinely works as your only car.
Worth knowing
- The M Sport setup with stiffer springs and dampers on 19-inch wheels means you feel every expansion joint and patched pothole, so this is not the sedan for a daily commute over broken tarmac.
- At roughly Rs 77 lakh it asks a big premium over the Rs 62.70 lakh 330Li that most onlookers cannot tell it apart from, and the pricing has moved around a lot, so timing your purchase matters.
- It wears an M Performance badge rather than a full M one, so there is no M division engine, no manual, and none of the hardcore hardware the M4 in the same showroom gets.
