The Hero Splendor Plus starts at ₹77,777 ex-showroom and costs ₹90,728 on the road in Mumbai, but the city you register it in can move that number by nearly ₹9,000. Skip the base bike too: the ₹81,283 Xtec Drum is the variant actually worth buying.
India’s best-selling motorcycle nameplate has barely changed in a decade, and that is both the pitch and the catch. The hardware is basic, the service network is everywhere, and the real decision buyers get wrong is picking the cheapest variant instead of the one that is cheapest per useful feature.

Which Hero Splendor Plus Variant Is Actually Worth Buying
Five variants, and the price gaps between them tell you exactly what each one is worth. According to The Spec’d’s price and ownership page for the Splendor Plus, here is every step:
| Variant | Ex-Showroom Price | Step Over Previous | What You Get |
| Splendor Plus | ₹77,777 | Cheapest variant | Drum brakes, analogue cluster |
| Splendor Plus i3S | ₹78,910 | +₹1,133 | i3S idle start-stop system |
| Splendor Plus Xtec Drum | ₹81,283 | +₹2,373 | Xtec digital console with Bluetooth. Best value. |
| Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 Drum | ₹83,414 | +₹2,131 | Xtec 2.0 software update |
| Splendor Plus Xtec Disc | ₹84,326 | +₹912 | Front disc brake |
Buy the Xtec Drum. For ₹2,373 over the i3S, which itself only adds ₹1,133 over the base bike, you get a digital console with Bluetooth, call and SMS alerts, and USB charging, over a standard twin-pod analogue dial. The Xtec 2.0 above it is mostly a software refresh, not worth ₹2,131 unless you want the newer LED headlamp. The top Xtec Disc adds a front disc brake for ₹912 more, worth it if you ride mostly at night or in the rain, since drum-brake hardware is the Splendor Plus’s one real weak point against newer rivals.
Hero Splendor Plus On-Road Price, City by City
Ex-showroom price is only part of the bill. Road tax is set state by state, and on The Spec’d’s city-wise on-road price pages, the gap between the cheapest and priciest of the 39 cities we price works out to ₹8,711 on the same bike:
| City | On-Road Price (base variant) | Road Tax Rate |
| Puducherry (cheapest) | ₹84,506 | 2% |
| Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Faridabad, Gurugram, Surat | ₹87,617 | 6% |
| New Delhi | ₹89,172 | 8% |
| Mumbai | ₹90,728 | 10% |
| Bengaluru, Hyderabad | ₹92,283 | 12% |
| Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada (priciest) | ₹93,217 | 13.2% |
That spread is almost entirely road tax, which Maharashtra and several other states set by engine size rather than a flat rate. Puducherry’s 2% rate makes it the cheapest city to register a Splendor Plus in on our figures, while Andhra Pradesh’s 13.2% rate makes Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada the priciest.
If you move states for work, government, PSU and defence staff, and employees of companies with offices in four or more states can register on a BH-series plate instead. On The Spec’d’s Mumbai page, that works out to about ₹879 in road tax every two years, around ₹6,153 over 14 years, against ₹7,778 paid once on a regular Maharashtra plate. It is worked out under the central rule, on the price before GST.

EMI: What You Will Actually Pay Each Month
Every EMI figure on The Spec’d is worked on the on-road price, not the ex-showroom price. On the Splendor Plus EMI calculator, with 20% down over 3 years at 12% interest on the Mumbai on-road price of ₹90,728, here is what tenure does to the bill:
| Loan Tenure | Monthly EMI (20% down, Mumbai) |
| 1 year | ₹6,449 |
| 2 years | ₹3,417 |
| 3 years | ₹2,411 |
| 4 years | ₹1,911 |
Two-wheeler loans typically run shorter than car loans and cost more, with banks starting around 10 to 15% and dealer finance often higher, so treat 12% as an estimate and check your own lender’s rate before booking.
Real Mileage, Not Just the Claimed 70 kmpl
Hero MotoCorp claims up to 70 kmpl under standard lab test conditions, which works out to about ₹1,430 per 1,000 km at ₹100 a litre, and roughly 680 km from the 9.8-litre tank, according to The Spec’d’s mileage page. Owner-reported figures on BikeWale cluster closer to 60 kmpl, and Team-BHP’s own spec listing puts the ARAI figure at 60 kmpl as well, a gap that likely reflects an across-the-range revision Hero has made to the claimed number over the years. Treat 70 kmpl as a lab ceiling, not a daily-commute figure, especially in stop-start city traffic.
How It Stacks Up Against Its Closest Rivals
It wins on reach, not price or mileage: Hero’s service network is the widest of any two-wheeler brand in India, which matters more than a few thousand rupees when you need a part in a small town.
| Bike | Ex-Showroom Price | Claimed Mileage |
| Hero Splendor Plus | ₹77,777 | 70 kmpl |
| Honda Livo | ₹80,330 | 70 kmpl |
| Bajaj Platina 110 | ₹75,797 | 70 kmpl |
| TVS Star City Plus | ₹72,500 | 86 kmpl (ARAI) |
The TVS Star City Plus undercuts it by ₹5,277 and claims a far higher ARAI figure, worth a look if mileage is your only criterion. See the Splendor Plus against the Honda Livo, its closest-priced rival, specification for specification.

Who Should Actually Buy One
Buy the Splendor Plus if low purchase price, guaranteed resale and a mechanic in every pin code matter more to you than features. Skip it if you want switchable riding modes, a quickshifter or genuinely modern braking hardware across the range, since only the top variant gets a front disc at all. For a wider shortlist, see The Spec’d’s full list of commuter bikes.
