BMW Cuts Profit Margin Target to Just 3-5% by 2028, Will Axe 8,000 German Jobs

Why it stands out
- It is the only new BMW in India you can buy with three pedals, and the manual carries no meaningful price premium over the automatic, which is a small miracle in 2026.
- Porsche has closed order books on the 718 Cayman in India, so the M2 now has almost no direct rear-drive rival anywhere near its money.
- With a 390-litre boot and rear seats genuinely usable for short hops, it is far more livable day to day than its track-weapon reputation suggests.
Worth knowing
- It arrives as a fully built import, so you are paying full duty and have far less negotiating room than on a locally assembled BMW like the M340i.
- The short wheelbase and stiff M setup make it fidgety over broken city surfaces, and the low nose needs real care at Indian speed breakers and basement ramps.
- The M2 CS asks roughly Rs 60 lakh more than the standard car for about 50 hp and some carbon, which is very hard to justify unless you actually do track days.
